Faith Journey

As men, we juggle family, work, community commitments, physical fitness, mundane chores, an occasional hobby and the dreaded daily commute. No wonder we constantly struggle for balance in life. Many men who are the breadwinners in the family will spend fifty to eighty hours per week between work and commute, and the remainder just trying to keep up. And, oh yes, and there's the question of sleep. For those who are retired, single, widowed or divorced, the challenges of health, isolation and the occasional lack of purpose can be even more daunting. No wonder we feel out of balance half the time!

Self Realization

At one of our own men's group meetings, we invited our associate pastor, who helped us discover a simple truth. The search for balance begins by knowing one's self; and the first step on that journey begins by placing God at the center. All else emanates from this core:

• a better understanding of our own gifts and talents
• an appreciation of our roles in the family, at work, and in the world.
• a sense of sincere purpose in life

God grounds us, if we allow, and Christ's teachings help guide us to this center. The following documents offer topic ideas, discussion questions and a range of resources that your group can use to seek that ethereal sense of balance by placing God at the center of our lives.
